Oil painting has a reputation for being difficult and taking ages to dry. But with simple steps and friendly guidance, you’ll surprise yourself and produce a piece worthy of a Christmas card (I’ll show you how to get it printed, too).

One of the best ways to learn oil painting is to copy the work of a master painter so for this workshop we’ll be copying Lane in Winter, Ludham by Edward Seago. You’ll learn all about:

• paints, brushes and solvents

• how to prepare a quick-drying board

• how to sketch in a design

• how to mix and apply colour, building a painting from dark to light

• how to bring a painting to a satisfying finish

This workshop is perfect for beginners and a relaxing creative escape. If you know someone who would enjoy a painting day, it would make a great early Christmas present too!
