11am to 3pm - All materials included

Oil painting has a reputation for being difficult and taking ages to dry. But with simple steps and friendly guidance, you’ll surprise yourself and produce a piece worthy of a Christmas card (I’ll show you how to get it printed, too).

One of the best ways to learn oil painting is to copy the work of a master painter so for this workshop we’ll be copying Sunlight and Snow by Edward Seago. This is a sequel to our last successful workshop in which students learned the basics, listed below. However this time we’ll be supplementing the basics with a closer look at colour.

Beginners are very welcome and it doesn’t matter if you missed the first workshop. I’ll be going over it all again and you’ll learn about:

  • paints, brushes and solvents

  • how to prepare a quick-drying board

  • how to sketch in a design

  • how to mix and apply colour, using complementary colours to create a vibrant painting, working from dark to light

  • how to bring a painting to a satisfying finish

This workshop is perfect for beginners and a relaxing creative escape. However for those of you who attended the October workshop it will help to consolidate your skills and build on them with new colour techniques.

If you know someone who would enjoy a painting day, it would make a great early Christmas present too!
